1500 And Counting

‘1500 & Counting’ is a documentary film investigating deaths in custody and police brutality in the UK, released in May 2019.

“On Sunday 3rd May 2015, Sheku Bayoh was killed by up to nine police officers in Kirkcaldy, Scotland. Five years later, his family are still demanding answers. The murder of George Floyd in 2020, which has sparked global uprisings and a resurgence of the Black Lives Matter movement has brought the issues of deaths in custody and directly following, or during, police contact into sharp relief once more.”

Green and Black Cross.jpg

Green and Black Cross

Green & Black Cross (GBC) is an independent grassroots project. We are set up in the spirit of mutual aid and solidarity for people with issues related to protest and political action within the UK.

GBC was founded in November 2010 to provide legal support for protests against the government’s wave of massive spending cuts. We take inspiration from the Anarchist Black Cross and from the diverse skills and infrastructure built up over the last decade by elements of the environmental movement, such as The Camp for Climate Action (Climate Camp).

GBC is formed of two autonomous collectives: the Training Collective and the Resources Collective. The Training Collective creates and delivers legal trainings for protesters and protest support, whilst the Resources Collective creates, updates and maintains resources.

These collectives work alongside other independent and autonomous legal support groups: the Independent Legal Observer Network (ILON), the Phone Helpline, Activist Court Aid Brigade (ACAB) and the Network for Police Monitoring (Netpol).

Justice 4 Grenfell

Justice 4 Grenfell (J4G) is a community-led organisation, focused on the long-term goal of obtaining justice for the bereaved families, survivors, evacuated residents and the wider local community, collaborating with representative organisations.

Justice 4 Grenfell was set up a few days after the Grenfell Fire disaster and officially launched on June 19th 2017 with a silent walk.

Together with many other local groups and individuals, J4G stepped into the void left by the authorities, to try to meet the urgent needs of those impacted.Their work continues because of the on-going failure of the authorities to respond adequately to the disaster.

Justice 4 Grenfell’s ultimate aim is to ensure that such an event never happens again.

In design, this service primarily supports victims of hate crime, but also works with children, young people and schools, providing support to pupils facing racist and other hate incidents in and around schools. We also deliver anti-hate based behaviour and cultural awareness sessions to pupils and school staff. Our work also extends to perpetrators and young offenders.

StopWatch.png

STOPWATCH

StopWatch is a coalition, which works to promote effective, accountable, and fair policing across the U.K. and to inform the public about the use of stop and search motions. The coalition organises awareness-raising events and forums, and provides legal aid assistance.

Since forming in 2010, StopWatch has led a wide-ranging campaign against the disproportionate use of stop and search, the increasing use of exceptional stop and search powers and the weakening of accountability mechanisms. This includes legal and policy analysis, media coverage and commentary, political advocacy, litigation, submissions to national and international organisations and community organising. The unique mix of academics, activists, young people and lawyers has proved effective at challenging the current use of the tactic and drawing attention to the realities for those on the receiving end of police powers.

StopWatch is structured around three streams of work: Research and PolicyYouth and Legal.
